Why are machine translations inherently inferior to human translations?

Language is a form of art, so is translation! Have you ever seen a great painting created by a machine? For that matter, have you ever heard a master piece of music composed by a robot? Why are folks so sold on machine translations? Is everyone out of their logical mind just because they want to save a couple pennies per word?

There are no black and white answers to your question. In some cases, machine translations actually fair better than human translations already such as highly structured documents that follow strict grammar and terminology standards. For example, legal documents (such as software terms and conditions) tend to translate fairly well if the MT is trained with sufficient subject mater terminology. You seem paranoid that machines will one day take away your job. Such a fear is unwarranted simply because languages continue to evolve so machines are not able to get ahead of humans in the foreseeable time.
