Spot metering

In this type of metering, a central spot of the frame is utilised to measure the light that is coming off the subject. The measuring spot is often indicated by the viewfinder of the camera. Used without care, this system can easily result in the metered area being well exposed while the rest of the frame is either under or over exposed.
