Russian meteor shower of 2013

An intense meteor rain storm that sent fireballs crashing on Earth, shattering windows and damaging buildings in central Russia on February 15, 2013. The meteor shower caused more than 1000 people to be injured, most of them hurt by falling glass caused by the meteor explosions. The large blast also produced a mild earthquake of magnitude 2.7.

Scientists believe the Russian meteor shower might have been caused by an asteroid in the size of an Olympic swimming pool passing Earth at a distance of 27,520 kilometers. The meteorites travelled at a speed of 30 kilometres per second, shot across the sky and exploded.
