One of the basic laws of electrical circuits stating that the algebraic sum of all of the voltage drops in any closed circuit is equal to zero. Another way to think of this is that the sum of all the voltage drops in a circuit is equal to the sum of the voltage sources in the circuit.

One of the basic laws of electrical circuits, stating that the sum of the current flowing away from any point in an electrical circuit is equal to the sum of the current flowing to that point.
Industry:Aviation
One of the basic laws of physics stating that energy can be neither created nor destroyed, but it can be changed from one form into other forms. Regardless of the form or forms into which the energy is changed, the total amount of energy always remains the same.

One of the basic machines used to gain mechanical advantage. The other basic machines are the lever and the wheel. A loading ramp which is a plane surface forming an angle with the horizon is an inclined plane. A force of only 100 pounds is needed to roll a 400-pound drum of oil up onto the bed of a truck, three feet high, if the drum is rolled up a ramp 12 feet long.

One of the cast-iron rings installed in grooves around a piston. The oil control ring is installed in the groove below the compression rings (top rings), and it is usually made in several sections. The oil control ring controls the amount of oil allowed to flow between the piston and the cylinder wall. Excess oil is drained back into the crankcase through holes drilled through the piston in the ring groove.
Industry:Aviation
One of the cast-iron rings installed in the grooves around a piston. The oil wiper ring is the bottom ring on a piston, and its purpose is to direct oil up between the piston and the cylinder wall for lubrication and sealing. The amount of oil allowed to remain between the piston and the cylinder wall is determined by the oil control ring.

One of the characteristics of an LC circuit, a circuit that contains both inductance and capacitance. If a class-C amplifier supplies an LC circuit with short pulses of energy at the proper time, the magnetic field around the inductor will build up and decay, and the capacitor will charge and discharge. The LC circuit acts as a flywheel, and a continuous flow of alternating current is maintained between the inductor and capacitor, even though the energy is supplied in short pulses. Energy stored in the electromagnetic and electrostatic fields is supplied to the circuit during the time it is not being supplied by the amplifier.
Industry:Aviation
One of the common terms used for a reciprocating engine.

One of the commonly used units in the metric system for measuring mass. One kilogram is the mass of one thousand cubic centimeters of pure water. In the International Bureau of Standards in Paris, France, there is a cylinder of platinum having a mass of exactly one kilogram. It is known as the standard kilogram.

One of the earliest examples of an electrical capacitor. A Leyden jar is a glass container with a liner of metal foil pressed against its inside surface and a coating of metal foil on the outside of the jar. When a source of DC electricity is connected across the two pieces of foil, electrostatic energy is stored in the glass (the dielectric of the capacitor).
